After a brief winter hiatus I am excited and pleased to be offering two progressive Power Yoga Therapy courses for spring 2008!

I am calling this round of classes “Integrated Alignment”.

The focus will be to explain and explore the transformative and beneficial practice of yoga, with special attention to the principles of “whole body” alignment.

In other words, rather than looking at the different areas of the body in isolation, we will be working with the body in its entirety. Our aim will be to experience the body as one biomechanically and energetically balanced system.

Drawing from many different traditions and disciplines (Ashtanga Vinyasa, Iyengar, Vijnana, Yin Yoga, Anusara, Myofascial Meridians, Tensegrity, Muscle Balance Function, P.N.F.), and with an emphasis on anatomical education, these courses are designed to provide students with new perspectives and a deeper understanding of Yoga and its effects on the body.

Each class will begin with a brief discussion on theory and anatomy followed by in depth physical application of these concepts to our practice. A workout for both the body and the mind!

Subjects covered include:

- Breath/Pranayama
- Preparatory exercises
- Sun Salutations
- Standing Postures
- Hip Openers
- Backbends
- Inversions
- Meditation

The courses will run for eight weeks with a bonus “make up/review class” in the ninth week.

The two courses are as follows:

Integrated Alignment Level 1

Time: Wednesdays from 7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Date: May 7th to June 25th (bonus class July 2nd)

Location: Vijnana Yoga Studio #2150 Maple St. (@ 6th Ave.)

Price: $149.00 (including gst)

Integrated Alignment Level 2

Time: Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Dates: May 8th to June 26th (bonus class July 3rd)
Location: Open Door Yoga (teacher training studio) #1461 Venables Ave.

Price: $149.00 (including gst)

Both classes will be challenging to all and are open to anyone with a willing body and open mind, but the Level 2 course is designed for the more experienced practitioner who already has a regular Yoga practice.

To register or for more information by phone or e-mail:

jesse@poweryogatherapy.com

#604.999.3742

* Pre-Registration is required for all courses. Thanks and I hope to see you soon!!

Hi Everybody,

I am finally ready to announce my only course for fall 2007!

I’ve had many outstanding inquiries and requests regarding courses and classes with me and I really appreciate your patience.

Due to other commitments I will only be offering one course this fall.

It will be a progressive sign-up class running from 6 - 7:45 p.m. for 8 Mondays beginning October 15th.

The location will be the Open Door Yoga teacher training studio at 1461 Venables (@ McLean Dr.)

The main thrust of the course will be to empower and assist students in the creation of their own safe, intelligent, effective and enjoyable Yoga practice.

Using the Power Yoga Therapy posture sequence as a basic framework and drawing heavily on the teachings of Vijnana Yoga and MuscleBalanceFunction postural rebalancing, we’ll learn how to adapt and integrate the daily practice of Yoga into our lives.

Some of the topics covered:

- safety and alignment
- basic structural anatomy and biomechanics
- myo-fascial meridians(”corelines”) and diaphragms (”domes”)
- “tensegrity” and “anatomical architecture”
- pranayama and “sitting”
I will provide students with a 6 second breath cd, a wooden doweling, a practice sequence and weekly written materials.

While I would never turn an eager student away, this course is designed for people who are serious about learning and practicing and who come with an open mind and a natural compassion for and curiosity about their bodies.

Cost is $140.00 for the 8 week session and class size will be limited to 15 students.

To register or for more info you can contact me at jesse@poweryogatherapy.com or #604-999-3742.

Thanks and I hope to see you soon!

“Svastha” is the original Sanskrit word for health.
“Sva” means ’self’ and “stha” means ‘to be established’.
Health in its highest and fullest sense is “to be established in oneself “.

I hope you’re all doing great and ready to get back into a healthy routine after any indulgences over the holidays.
Consistency, patience and finding pleasure in healthy practice is the key in my book.

Jason and Kelly at Flow Yoga were kind enough to let me teach three episodes of their television show last summer and I’m finally putting them up for your viewing pleasure.
This first episode is mostly me talking about my history and approach and about the basic principles of Power Yoga Therapy.
I’ll be posting a small segment of each episode once a day over the next week or so leading up to the start of my courses, so keep checking back!

Speaking of the courses….
The Sunday afternoon class is Unity Yoga is full, but there’s still some space in:
Friday at Vijnana - 6 - 7:45 p.m. (starts Jan. 26th)
Saturday at Flow Yoga - 2 - 3:45 p.m. (starts Jan. 27th)
Sundays at Vijnana - 6 - 7: 45 p.m. (starts Jan. 21st)
and
Thursdays at Semperviva City Centre - 4 - 5:50 p.m. (starts Jan 25th)
We had our first class at Unity this past Sunday on Bandhas:”The Living Domes of the Body”, and it was lots of fun!
Hope to see you soon,

Jesse.

To register contact Sue at Unity Yoga: #604.708.8369 info@unityoga.ca
